Thirty Days of Prayer - Day Fourteen

John 12:46 (KJV)

In the physical realm, none of us wants to abide (stay, remain, live) in the darkness.  When they were young, my children feared that an approaching storm might cause us to lose power and be cast into darkness.  Explaining that it would be temporary didn’t give them much comfort.  But a flashlight placed in their hand seemed to do the trick.  Having a light with them gave them reassurance that they would not be left in the dark.

The words of Christ in John 12:46 tell us that we can escape the darkness through belief in Him.  “I am come a light into the world that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”  I John 1:5 states, “…God is light and in him is no darkness at all.”  Either we are abiding in Christ, or we are abiding in the spiritual darkness of this world.  We abide in Christ through obedience to His word and by being sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading.  Only through abiding in Him can we escape our own spiritual darkness, and be fruitful in our service to Him.  If we abide in Him, we can share His light with those around us.

Just like children carrying a flashlight into a darkened room, if we abide in the light that is Christ, we need not fear the darkness of this world.  If we abide in Him, our faith can illuminate the path for those seeking the Light that dispels all darkness.

Question for reflection:

What can I do to abide more fully in the light of Christ?

Action Step:

Seek out a prayer partner you can call on when the darkness of the world encroaches on your faith.

Prayer:

“Father, help me to abide in You so that I may serve You and share Your Light more readily.”
