Thirty Days of Prayer - Day Ten

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” (John 15: 7 ESV)

My father depended on a small-scale farm he owned to provide for his family. As a child, I saw how he struggled to plough, plant, tend and harvest his maize crop amidst constantly changing weather patterns. Each year, he trusted in God to get just the right kind of harvest to feed and clothe his family, keep his five children in school and sustain his calling as a Quaker pastor. Every evening before we read scriptures and prayed, Dad impressed on us to trust in God and focus on our education in order to change our family’s fortune. We obeyed and trusted in God. Many years later, my siblings and I have promising careers. Indeed, my father’s conviction has come to pass. In John 15: 7 Jesus asks us to abide in Him in order for Him to grant us our wishes. When we walk through periods of uncertainty, we must seek Christ to walk with us. We must turn to the One who will not remove His presence from us. To abide in Christ is to put Him at the center of our lives.

Queries: Are you prayerfully seeking the guidance of Christ when you encounter challenges in your life? Do you promote the moral and spiritual life of your children by reading the scripture, giving time for meditation and encouraging them to make Christ the center of their lives?

Action Step: If you have a difficult road before you, make sure you walk with Christ who is your guide.

Prayer Focus: Thank You, Lord, for walking with us every day and may we sense Your loving presence knowing that You are our guide.
