Nicholas and Dorcas Otieno, New Living Letters

The Living Letters Program is a new approach Friends United Meeting is taking to how we look at mission travel and service. In 2 Corinthians 3:3, the Apostle Paul writes, “You are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”

This verse informs our approach to service learning trips and volunteering within the FUM community. Through traveling in ministry, visiting Friends, and providing ministries of support, education, and encouragement, we become Living Letters written upon human hearts.

This year, Friends United Meeting has sponsored Living Letter Trips to Cuba and Kenya. Additionally, we have had Living Letter Volunteers serving at Ramallah Friends School, Friends Theological College, Samburu Friends Mission, and Belize Friends School.

We are excited to announce that Nicholas and Dorcas Otieno have recently been named as Living Letter missionaries, sent from Kenyan Friends to serve in Tanzania Yearly Meeting. By sending them as Living Letters, we can invite members of the FUM community to support and pray for their ministry. The initial support for their work is provided by Indiana Yearly Meeting; however, the FUM Africa Ministries Office has plans for Kenyan Friends to increase their support for the Oteieno’s ministry over time.

As Living Letter missionaries, Dorcas and Nicholas will be working to train and empower Tanzania Yearly Meeting’s leadership and pastors. They will also be working to develop a regional approach to leadership development, church planting, and discipleship. Please pray for their important ministry. Also, pray for the upcoming crusade they are planning in Dar es Salaam. Their hope is to plant a Friends church in this urban center.
